Maruti Dzire AMT launch nears; test drive car spotted

Earlier this year, we had reported that Maruti Suzuki was testing an automated manual transmission (AMT) version of the Dzire compact sedan. Now, a test drive vehicle of the car has been spotted at what is believed to be a dealership yard suggesting that the launch of the car is nearing.

Like the previous spotting, the test drive car is a ZDi (top-end diesel) variant indicating that the AMT is likely to be available on the diesel version of the Dzire only. Like other AMT-equipped Maruti cars, this vehicle has an Auto Gear Shift sticker on its boot. No other cosmetic change can be spotted on the car. Additionally, all the features from the manual variant are likely to be carried over to the AMT variant.

The Dzire diesel is powered by a Fiat-sourced, 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder engine that develops 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque @ 2,000. The AMT is sourced from Magneti Marelli.

The Dzire competes with the Ford Figo, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest. It is the best-selling sedan in India.
