Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door caught testing in India

The 5-door Jimny will compete with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in the Indian market.

A test mule of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been spotted testing in India. The 5-door version of the compact off-roader is expected to debut at the 2023 Auto Expo.

Maruti has been producing the 3-door version of the Jimny in India for the export markets. However, this is the first time that a camouflaged test mule of the 5-door version has been seen on Indian roads.

Rumours suggest that apart from an extra set of doors, the Jimny could also get a larger touchscreen infotainment system and other minor changes.

In India, the Jimny is expected to be powered by the K15C 1.5-litre DualJet engine. It’s the next iteration of the K15B petrol motor. The engine is likely to be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 4-wheel-drive system.

The 5-door Jimny will compete with the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in the Indian market.
