Mercedes to axe half its engine line-up in the coming years

There are no details on which of the engine variants are at risk of being axed.

According to a media report, Mercedes-Benz could axe half its engine line-up in the coming years.

The report suggests that the German brand is looking to reduce the number of petrol and diesel-powered engines offered by 50%. While the report doesn't reveal any more details, it does state that the decision is mainly to allow Mercedes-Benz to comply with the upcoming Euro 7 regulations, scheduled to be implemented sometime in 2025.

Having said that, Mercedes-Benz is yet to make an official announcement on the same. There are also no details on which of the engine variants are at risk of being axed. Although a few reports do suggest, the carmaker could be looking at slashing older and larger displacement engines from the line-up.

Mercedes-Benz recently announced that the company would suspend sales of all V8-powered cars in the USA in 2022. The German carmaker cited issues in the supply chain and other factors as the reason.
