MG Hector production begins

The first MG Hector has rolled off the production line at MG Motor India's assembly line at Halol, Gujarat.

The MG Hector will be unveiled on May 15, 2019 and pre-orders will begin in June this year. It is based on the Baojun 530 but MG claims to have made more than 300 changes to the SUV to suit Indian conditions. It will also feature localized parts.

MG has invested Rs. 2,200 crore in its Gujarat plant. It has an annual capacity of 80,000 units with provision to increase the capacity if required. 

The company has set up a new assembly line, press shop, body shop, parts distribution centre, test track and a training facility in the last 18 months. The factory also has advanced robotic spot welding, robotic roller hemming and robotic brazing facilities. The paint shop uses robotic application at all stages, while Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are employed in the assembly line.
