According to a media report, the upcoming Hyundai small car (codenamed: AH2) is likely to be named as 'Santro'. The carmaker has released figures of the online naming contest that was launched last month. Over 2 lakh people have voted for the 'Santro' name, while 'i5' received 663 votes. 'Splash' and Saneon (Santro + Eon) garnered 443 and 426 votes respectively.

As we get closer to the launch date, more details about the new Santro have surfaced online. Media reports suggest that it is likely to get features like rear AC vents, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a reverse camera on higher variants. Safety equipment like ABS and dual front airbags could be offered as standard.

The new Santro is expected to be powered by a reworked 1.1-litre, Epsilon petrol engine. Transmission options might include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. It is also likely to get a factory-fitted CNG option.

The new Santro is expected to be launched on October 23, 2018, while pre-bookings are rumoured to open on October 10. It will compete with the Maruti Celerio and Tata Tiago in the Indian market.
