New-gen Maruti Suzuki Dzire to launch in India on May 16

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new-generation Dzire compact sedan in India on May 16, 2017. For the third-generation model, Maruti has dropped the 'Swift' name from the moniker, as the compact sedan will now just be called the Dzire. It will be available in 4 trim levels - LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi and ZXi+/ZDi+.

The 2017 Dzire is based on Suzuki's 5th generation HEARTECT platform. It will thus be the second car based on the said platform to be launched in India, after the Baleno premium hatchback. Maruti also claims that the new Dzire is compliant with the upcoming crash test norms.

The 3rd-gen model gets a new exterior design, which is characterized by a wide, chrome-lined front grille, flanked on both sides by LED projector headlamps that come with LED DRLs. The bumper gets larger fog lamp housings and a few more chrome inserts around the edge. The side profile reveals a more proportionate layout for the new Dzire, especially in comparison to its predecessors. It comes with new 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear will get a stubby boot with a chrome bar and number plate housing in the middle and wraparound tail lights at each corner.

Powering the 2017 Maruti Dzire will be the same 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol and 1.3-litre, four-cylinder diesel engines that are being offered with the current model. A 5-speed manual gearbox will be standard with both engines, while a 5-speed AMT will also be on offer in both petrol and diesel guises. The AMT will be available in all variants above the V trim.
