Nexon EV-rivalling MG EV coming by March 2023

The new mass-market EV could be priced between Rs. 10-15 lakh.

MG Motor India plans to launch a more affordable EV by the end of the next fiscal.

According to Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director, MG Motor India, the new model will be based on a global platform. It will be customized depending on the requirements of the Indian customers and local regulations.

Without going into the technical details of the new mass-market EV, Chaba stated that if the company is able to price it between Rs. 10-15 lakh, it would generate good volumes.

At present, the ZS EV is the only all-electric model offered by MG in India. The company plans to increase its production from the current 250-300 units per month to over 500 units.

Meanwhile, MG has homologated the ZS EV with a smaller battery pack. According to the Type Approval certificate, the ZS could get a 40 kWh battery. At present, the car uses a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
