Next-gen Ford EcoSport caught testing

A test mule of what is believed to be the next-generation Ford EcoSport has been spotted testing. It is expected to replace the current model in international markets sometime around 2020.

The test mule of the Fiesta-based compact SUV appears to be sporting a Fiesta bodyshell. It has dummy headlights at the front with a front fascia that resembles that of the European Fiesta hatchback. The rear is also identical to the current-gen Fiesta. However, the raised ride height indicates that the car is likely to be an SUV.

In Europe, the EcoSport is available with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. However, Ford only offers the front-wheel drive version in India. Engine options include a 1.5-litre petrol producing 121 BHP and 150 Nm of torque, a 1.5-litre diesel putting out 99 BHP and 205 Nm of torque and a 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol that develops 123 BHP and 170 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is offered as standard, while a 6-speed automatic is available with the petrol engine. The EcoBoost engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
