Picture of the last Fords rolling out of Sanand plant

Tata Motors is said to be in the race to acquire Ford India's assets.

As Ford winds down its operations in India, the last cars have rolled out of the brand's Sanand plant.

Last month, Ford announced that it would stop manufacturing cars in India. The decision comes in the wake of mounting losses to the tune of US$ 2 billion over the last 10 years.

The carmaker also confirmed that the Sanand plant would shut down by Q4 2021, while the Chennai plant will continue to operate until Q2 2022. While vehicle production will be halted, the engine plant at Sanand will continue its operations.

It has been reported that Tata Motors could be in the race to acquire Ford's assets in India. That would include the Chennai and Sanand plants that have a combined annual production capacity of 4.4 lakh units.
