Production-spec Maruti Suzuki Ciaz spied undisguised

The upcoming Ciaz sedan from the Maruti Suzuki stables has been spied at the company's plan at Manesar, Haryana. Pictures show a fleet of the VXi and VDi (mid) variants of the Ciaz parked at the manufacturing facility.

The Ciaz has a radiator grille with horizontal chrome slats, swept-back projector headlamps, and tail lamps that are shaped similarly to those we saw in the Ciaz concept, which was displayed at the 2014 Auto Expo, held earlier this year. The bumper too seems to have been carried over from the concept, but the fog lamps have been changed. At the rear, the horizontal chrome strip, seen on the boot of the Ciaz concept, seems to have been left out - surprising, considering Indians' love for chrome. As expected, the dual exhaust system has been left out as well and the bumper houses a pair of reflectors instead of the tips of the exhaust pipes. The tiny wing mirrors that were seen on the concept have been replaced by larger, more practical ones and sport integrated turn-indicators. Steel wheel replace the stylish alloys that were seen on the concept. The ZXi (top) variant should sport alloy wheels.

Going by the DDiS badge on the car, we expect the Ciaz to be powered by a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre, 90PS, MultiJet diesel engine. The petrol variant of the car is likely to get a 1.4-litre, 95PS, K-Series engine.  Apart from a manual gearbox, an Automated Manual Transmission could also be available.

The Ciaz is a replacement for the SX4 sedan and will compete against the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny and Renault Scala. the car is expected to be launched next month.
