Rumour: Royal Enfield's new 600cc motorcycle codenamed P61

Royal Enfield is aiming to be the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer in the 200cc - 750cc category. In order to achieve this goal, it is expanding its global product portfolio. The company is likely to introduce a new motorcycle in 2017, codenamed P61.

At present, Royal Enfield has bikes ranging from 350cc to 535cc in its model line-up. The company is reported to have started working on a new 600cc - 650cc, twin-cylinder motorcycle in UK. The bike is being aimed at cruiser riders in Europe and the US, who need motorcycles with larger engines, having more power on tap.

To develop products that are suitable for international markets and increase its global presence, Royal Enfield has set up a technical centre in UK and distribution subsidiary in the US. The company has also acquired UK-based motorcycle design and performance firm, Harris Performance Products Ltd.

Larger versions of existing products - the Classic and Thunderbird are also rumoured to be under development. Codenamed D41 and D61 respectively, these are also likely to be offered primarily in international markets.
