Rumour: BMW G 310 R launch delayed, again!

The BMW G 310 R has been on the list of upcoming bikes in India for a fairly long time now. While it was earlier expected to be introduced in mid-2016, the launch was later delayed to October and then subsequently to April 2017. However, media reports now indicate that the launch has once again been pushed back, as the bike is now expected to be introduced in the country later this year.

While the launch of BMW Motorrad's entry-level bike has been delayed, the company will still be starting its Indian operations in April itself, with the launch of its higher-capacity range of bikes. Hence, initial launches coming from the German bike maker will include the R1200, K1600, R NineT, S1000R and the S1000RR.

The reported reason behind the delay in the G 310 R's India launch is the lack of a dense dealer network. While the company has set up a few dealerships in major cities, it is keen on having a wider reach before its relatively mass-market offering is launched.

The G 310 R is the first bike to come out from the BMW Motorrad - TVS alliance. It is also the first BMW motorcycle to be produced locally in India, at the TVS factory in Hosur. It is powered by a 313 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that develops 34 BHP @ 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque @ 7,500 rpm, while being mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
