Rumour: BMW X4 to be launched in 2019

BMW unveiled the second generation X4 at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Now, according to a media report, the carmaker is planning to launch the SUV in India in 2019.

The new BMW X4 is based on BMW's CLAR platform, which also underpins the recently launched BMW X3. Compared to its predecessor, the new X4 is longer, wider and lower and thanks to the new platform, it is 50 kg lighter as well.

In terms of styling, the X4 is essentially a coupe version of the X3. It has a similar front fascia with a large twin-kidney grille flanked by BMW's twin-pod LED headlights. The front bumper has a large air dam and is flanked by vents on either side, which house a pair of LED fog lights. The coupe-like roofline is more evident in side profile. The rear end however is unique to the X4. It features slim L-shaped LED tail lights with the BMW logo in the centre, dual-tone rear bumper and twin-exhaust tips.

That said, the interiors are similar to the X3. It comes with a redesigned dashboard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a touchpad and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include 3-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, electric seats and ambient lighting among others.

In India, BMW might offer the X4 with the same engine as the new X3, which is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel which produces 188 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. The X4 is likely to get all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.
