Rumour: Honda Civic to be launched in India in 2019

More than a decade has passed since the 8th generation Civic was launched in India. Honda stopped selling the Civic in India back in 2013. Now, according to a media report, the company could re-introduce the Civic in the Indian market in 2019.

The Civic is currently in its 10th generation. Honda is reportedly keen on bringing the latest model to India. By the time the Civic arrives on our shores, it is scheduled to get a mid-life facelift. The basic profile of the car is likely to be retained, as will be the notchback body style.

A 1.8-litre petrol engine with around 140 BHP could power the India-spec Honda Civic. Along with it, for the first time in India, the Civic is expected to be offered with a diesel engine. It could use a 1.6-litre diesel that will reportedly debut on the Honda CR-V in mid-2018. In the international market, the Civic is offered with a 1.0-litre petrol, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.6-litre diesel engines, while the Civic Type R uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The new Honda Civic will compete against the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and the likes in the Indian market.
