Rumour: Jeep Renegade in pipeline for the Indian market

The Jeep Renegade has been spotted multiple times while testing on public roads in India. However, whether or not the American automaker will launch it in the country was something that wasn't known yet. Some speculations even suggested that the Renegade's test mules were actually being used only for component testing. However, recent media reports now suggest that Jeep is planning to launch the Renegade in India by the end of next year or in early 2019.

If the rumours do come out to be true, the Renegade will become Jeep's most affordable vehicle in India. The company currently sells the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee in the country, while the Compass has also been revealed recently and will be launched in the coming months. The Renegade will thus be placed below the Compass and is expected to compete against the likes of the Hyundai Creta.

The Renegade will most probably be assembled locally at FCA's Ranjangaon production facility. Since Jeep has already localized the 1.4-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines for the Compass, it might use the same engines in the Renegade as well, though in a slightly lower state of tune. Jeep might also use Fiat's 1.6-litre MultiJet diesel unit for the Renegade, which is the same unit that powers the S-Cross 1.6. It will also likely be offered with four-wheel drive setup on select variants.
