Rumour: Lexus India showrooms to open early next year

Toyota is all set to introduce its luxury car brand - Lexus in the Indian market. According to media reports, Lexus will have a separate and dedicated sales and service channel in the country. All major metro cities are likely to get a Lexus dealership. The first two showrooms will be opened in Mumbai and Delhi, which are expected to start operations from early next year.

While earlier plans pointed towards an all-hybrid product portfolio for Lexus in India, recent reports suggest that the company will be bringing a few conventionally-fuelled models as well. This change in strategy is a result of no major green-car related incentives from the government, something that Toyota was banking on.

The Lexus LX SUV is likely to be the first model to be introduced in the country. It will be offered in two variants - the petrol LX 570 and diesel LX 450d. This full-size 8-seater SUV is likely to be joined by its compact sibling - the RX. The five seater Lexus RX will be available only in a hybrid variant - the RX 450h. Interestingly, all Lexus SUVs are expected to come with all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard.

Talking about the sedan line-up, Lexus is likely to introduce only the ES 300h hybrid, which will compete with the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
