Rumour: Lexus starts local assembly of ES sedan in India

According to a media report, Lexus has started local assembly of the ES sedan in India.

The report states that CKD assembly has started at an assembly line set up at Toyota's Bidadi plant, near Bangalore. The carmaker is rumoured to have invested US$ 100 million to install the new assembly line.

Lexus also plans to start local assembly of the NX SUV. The move is expected to bring down the price of both the cars.

In India, Lexus is said to have a market share of just 1-2%. At present, it has dealerships in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore. The carmaker is rumoured to expand its footprint into Chennai and Hyderabad.
