Rumour: Mahindra to launch Scorpio facelift in October

Mahindra has been testing the Scorpio facelift for a long time. The vehicle was expected to be launched sometime in 2014, but there was no fixed date given by the company. Now however, according to media reports, the SUV will be launched in the month of October.

The updated Scorpio is likely to feature changes to its exterior as well as interiors. Expected changes to the exterior include a redesigned front end with a new grille, headlights and bumper and a tweaked rear end with a new tail gate and bumper. LED day-time running lights and tail lamps are likely to make an appearance and the design of the alloy wheels could be changed as well. On the inside, the Scorpio is likely to get a redesigned dashboard with a new instrument cluster and steering wheel and other bits borrowed from the XUV500. Features such as an upgraded infotainment system with a touchscreen and satellite navigation and automatic climate control are also likely to be added.

Mechanical changes could include a tweaked suspension for better ride and handling. The engine and transmission options for the Scorpio are expected to remain unchanged. The higher variants will continue to use the same 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that puts out 120 bhp and 290 Nm of torque, while the base EX variant will be powered by the m2DiCR diesel unit that produces 75 bhp and 220 Nm of torque.
