Rumour: SsangYong Tivoli could come to India

Earlier this year, SsangYong, the Korean subsidiary of Mahindra, unveiled the Tivoli compact SUV. The car is expected to go on sale in Korea next month. Now, media reports suggest that Mahindra could be considering bringing it to India.

The Tivoli 4,195 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,590 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Its size makes it a competitor for the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the upcoming Suzuki A-Cross. However, Mahindra could position it as a premium product and price it higher than the abovementioned cars.

The Tivoli is available with a 1.6L, 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 113 BHP and a 1.6L, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 124 BHP. In India however, it could be powered by Mahindra's new 1.5-litre diesel unit that is also expected to be used in the next-generation Bolero (U301).

The Tivoli comes with features such as electric power steering, leather upholstery, 60:40 split folding rear seats with fold down central armrest, adjustable front seat headrests, a height adjustable driver seat, climate control and four-wheel drive. Safety features include airbags, ABS, hydraulic brake assist (HBA), hill start assist, active roll-over protection, speed sensing door locks, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) along with front and rear parking sensors.
