Rumour: Suzuki to invest Rs. 9,000 crore in Gujarat car plant

According to a media report, Suzuki plans to invest Rs. 9,000 crore to set up a new car plant in Gujarat and increase its annual production capacity in the state to 15,00,000 units. The report suggests that the new factory is likely to come up in Ahmedabad district, close to the existing facility.

The additional funds will increase Suzuki's total investment in the country to around Rs. 30,000 crore. These funds will reportedly be used to purchase land and to set up three new assembly lines that will boost annual production capacity by 7,50,000 units. An engine manufacturing plant and a research and development (R&D) centre are also planned.

Suzuki is also planning to expand capacity at its existing Gujarat plant by 2,50,000 units in the coming months. We had earlier reported that the company will be setting up a lithium-ion battery factory in Gujarat.
