Rumour: Tesla to partner with Reliance to manufacture EVs in India

Tesla plans to set up a US$2-3 billion electric vehicle manufacturing plant in India.

Recently, there have been reports in the media suggesting that Tesla is scouting for locations to set up its proposed EV factory in India. It is now said that the US-based EV maker could partner with Reliance Industries to manufacture its electric cars in India.

According to a media report, Tesla is in talks with Reliance Industries regarding a potential joint venture to establish a manufacturing facility in the country. The discussions are said to be in the initial stages.

Maharashtra and Gujarat have reportedly presented attractive land proposals to Tesla for its manufacturing base. The company is also said to be in talks with the Telangana government.

Tesla plans to set up a US$2-3 billion electric vehicle manufacturing plant in India. The factory is expected to have a maximum capacity of 5,00,000 units per annum. The carmaker might also consider setting up its own battery plant at a later stage.
