Rumour: Volvo XC40 to be launched in July 2018

According to a media report, Volvo is gearing up to launch the XC40 in India in the first week of July 2018. The car will be imported as a completely built unit (CBU).

The XC40 is Volvo's smallest SUV offering, which is based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). In terms of its design, the XC40 gets an upright front grille and LED headlights with DRLs shaped like Thor's hammer. The rear features a roof-mounted spoiler, L-shaped tail lights and a dual-tone bumper that houses the number plate and twin chrome exhausts.

On the inside, the XC40 gets a 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with a twin-dial digital instrument cluster and a large, vertically-oriented touchscreen infotainment system in the centre. The screen is flanked by vertical air-conditioning vents finished in chrome. The cabin features leather upholstery and can seat up to 5 people.

In India, the XC40 is likely to be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 188 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. The engine comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Volvo XC40 will compete with the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and Mercedes-Benz GLA in the premium SUV segment.
