Sebastian Vettel wins the 2018 British GP

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel has won the 2018 British Grand Prix ahead of championship rival and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen came third.

Hamilton started from pole but was overtaken by Vettel before turn 1 due to a poor start. He later spun on the very first lap after clashing with Raikkonen, which dropped him to 18th place. Raikkonen was handed a 10-second time penalty for the collision. He served the penalty when he came into the pits for a tyre change on lap 13.

The safety car was deployed after Marcus Ericsson crashed at turn 1. Both Red Bull and Ferrari decided to pit under the safety car, while Mercedes opted to stay out on track. Vettel rejoined behind Valtteri Bottas and ahead of Hamilton, who was followed by Raikkonen and Verstappen. The safety car was out on the track again when Carlos Sainz (Renault) and Romain Grosjean (Haas) collided. With Vettel on fresher rubber, it didn't take long for the Ferrari to get ahead of the Mercedes. Bottas continued to lose more places after being overtaken by Hamilton and Raikkonen. In the end, he had to settle for fourth place.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished fifth, while his teammate Max Verstappen had to retire due to a gearbox issue. Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) finished in sixth place ahead of the Force India of Esteban Ocon. McLaren's Fernando Alonso finished in 8th ahead of Haas driver Kevin Magnussen. Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) came home in 10th place. However, due to a post-race penalty, Gasly was demoted to 13th place and Force India's Sergio Perez moved into the points.

After winning the British GP, Sebastian Vettel has extended his lead over Lewis Hamilton in the Driver's Championship. He is now 8 points clear of the British driver.

The next race will be held at Hockenheim in Germany on July 22, 2018.
