Skoda evaluating small EV for India

Skoda is looking to set up an EV manufacturing unit in the country sometime after 2025.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India is evaluating a small EV for the Indian market. The carmaker is also looking to set up an EV manufacturing unit in the country sometime after 2025.

Skoda Auto, CEO, Thomas Schaefer has stated that India could serve as a manufacturing hub for affordable EVs in the future. He added that a small EV based on a VW platform could be introduced in India.

Schaefer believes that Skoda would require a new factory to be able to offer EVs at affordable prices. At present, the company is conducting a pilot study on the Enyaq.

Speaking about the importance of India's manufacturing capabilities, Schaefer stated that India could serve markets in South East Asia and Africa in the next 10-15 years. The company is now working on the "2.5 project", which includes a new sub-4 meter SUV.
