Tata 45X premium hatchback named as Altroz

Tata Motors has announced the name of its upcoming premium hatchback (codenamed: 45X). The car is called Altroz, which according to the company is inspired by the bird Albatross.

Tata's premium hatchback has already been spotted testing in India. However, the production-spec Altroz will be unveiled for the first time at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The car is based on Tata's Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. Spy images suggest that it could get a slim grille flanked by sweptback headlamp clusters at the front and slim tail lights at the rear. It is expected to get Harrier-inspired interiors featuring a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and an instrument cluster with a large digital display.

Reports suggest that the Altroz could be offered with the same petrol engines that power the Tiago and Nexon. Therefore, it could get the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine from the Tiago and the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit from the Nexon. Both engines might come equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

In India, the Altroz is expected to compete with the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20.
