Tata confirms two new SUVs for FY2018-19

According to a media report, Tata Motors could launch two new SUVs during the financial year 2018-19.

The company is reported to have confirmed that that two new SUVs are currently being developed. Both these cars are believed to be based on a tweaked version of Land Rover's L550 platform, which underpins the Discovery Sport. The new models will include a 5-seater and a 7-seater SUV. While the former is expected to compete with the Hyundai Creta and upcoming Renault Kaptur, the latter is expected to take on the Jeep Compass.

Back in 2015, we had reported that Tata Motors was working on the abovementioned SUVs, which were codenamed Q501 and Q502 respectively. Earlier this year, a test mule of a Tata SUV with a Land Rover body, believed to be the Q501, was spotted as well.

In its new SUVs, Tata is expected to use the same 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the Compass. However, the report claims that while the engine is expected to develop 170 BHP in the 7-seater, the 5-seater model could get a detuned version with 140 BHP on tap.
