Tata dealership issues the same number to two vehicles including mine

They've 'mistakenly' put my RC's number plate on someone else's nexon at the service center.

BHPian arsachdeva recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

This post is written out of disappointment and to make readers aware about the careless attitude of dealerships these days.

I bought a Tata Punch in Feb 2023 from SP Tata in Udaipur. My first problem happened when I went to book (a separate thread about it on the forum had already been posted).

What happened afterwards is something I couldn't fathom even after a year.

So, one day (6 months after purchase), I get a call from someone in near my city claiming he is a traffic police officer and has found my car standing near a highway in different city. My first thought was about a scam as I was in my car at the moment.

I argued with the person who gave me my RC number, the car's model, etc. and told he is about to register a challan. I didn't pay much heed as I am used to reading scam posts.

But I still confirmed it with my dealership. What they told was amusing and frustrating at the same time:

They've 'mistakenly' put my RC's number plate on someone else's nexon at the service center. They admitted to this after to and fro with 3-4 people at their service center.

How did they get a second number plate set I am not sure, yet.

The issue got sorted (they told me) as they've informed the other car's owner that the number plate on his car is not his (funny). Though I feel this was a serious lapse on Tata's part which could have turned into something ugly.

I got relieved as I thought my problems ended.

But now, after One Vehicle, One FastTag policy, my problems returned. Now, the fasttag on my vehicle has been deactivated as I see my same registration number's tag is on another vehicle too (I assume the same owner who got my number plate).

Now, I being the legit owner of my RC, car, and fasttag shouldn't feel hassled, right?

But even after registering it with the management at local dealership, talking to sales person who sold me the car, and being in touch with people at tata, I still am not sure what to do about it.

Can I just complain somewhere formally about this lapse?

Here's what BHPian GTX+ had to say on the matter:

A similar incident reported from Greater Noida...coincidently again TATA cars (Nexon) are involved in this. Both cars have same registration number, same make, same colour.

Not sure if it is a genuine mistake or something fishy is going on.
