Tata Harrier spied; testing new petrol engine?

The new 1.5L turbo-petrol engine could also be offered in the Gravitas.

New spy images of the Tata Harrier have surfaced online, raising speculations that it could be the upcoming petrol variant.

The test mule was spotted on the outskirts of Pune. It had emission testing equipment mounted at the rear.

In March 2020, we had reported that the Harrier petrol was unlikely to be launched before 2021 or 2022, as the new petrol engine had to undergo a lot of testing before it could be introduced in the market.

The engine in question is a 1.5-litre, direct-injection turbo-petrol motor that could be offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This engine is likely to be offered in the 7-seater Gravitas as well.

At present, the Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 168 BHP and 350 Nm. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
