Tata Motors commences production of the new Safari

The first all-new Safari has rolled off the assembly line as Tata prepares to launch the SUV in the Indian market.

Tata Motors has commenced production of the all-new Tata Safari. The first car has rolled out of the Pune plant ahead of its official unveiling scheduled for January 26, 2021.

The new Safari is essentially a 7-seat version of the Harrier and is based on the same OMEGARC platform. It will be available in four variants - XE, XM, XT and XZ.

The styling of the new Safari is based on Tata's Impact 2.0 design philosophy. While the front fascia is similar to the Harrier it gets a chrome grille and an upright rear section to accommodate a third row of seats. It gets a stepped roofline just like the original.

On the inside, the Safari gets an Oyster White theme with Ash Wood dashboard trim. The SUV will be offered in 6 and 7-seat configurations.

The new Safari is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine producing 170 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
