Tata Nexon AMT variant details out. Launch in May 2018

Tata Motors is likely to launch the Nexon AMT in May 2018. The automated manual transmission (AMT) will be available in XZA+ trim with a choice of petrol or diesel engines.

In terms of styling, the Nexon AMT is identical to the standard car. It gets a honeycomb grille flanked by projector headlamps with LED DRLs, while the front bumper houses a set of fog lamps. The compact SUV features a coupe-like roofline and it rides on 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. Tata is also offering a new dual-tone orange and silver exterior colour option.

On the inside, apart from the AMT gearbox, the XZA+ variant gets similar features as the XZ+ variant with the manual gearbox. It comes with a 6.5-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, voice commands, multi-functional steering wheel, automatic climate control, electric ORVMs, height adjustable driver seat among others. Tata is also offering a wearable smart key similar to the Land Rover Activity key.

Coming to the engines, the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 108 BHP and 170 Nm and the 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel unit producing 108 BHP and 260 Nm of torque are being offered with the 6-speed AMT. Like the manual version, the AMT model also has three driving modes - Eco, City and Sport. In addition to that, the AMT comes equipped with features like hill assist, creep function, anti-stall and kick-down among others.

Standard safety features that are offered on the Nexon AMT include ABS with EBD, driver and passenger side airbags, park assist with rear sensors and reverse camera.

The Nexon AMT will rival the Ford EcoSport automatic in the Indian market. That said, Tata Motors is yet to confirm its launch date.
