Tata T1 Prima truck racing championship scheduled on March 19

Tata Motors has announced that the fourth season of the T1 Prima truck racing championship will be held on March 19, 2017. Like its earlier three iterations, the Buddh International Circuit will continue to be the venue of the racing series for the 2017 season as well.

Tata first brought the concept of truck racing to India with the Season 1 of the T1 Prima racing series in 2014. Every subsequent year since then saw a new season of the one-make truck racing championship. Indian drivers participated in the race for the first time in Season 3 last year. These drivers were selected from the T1 Racer Program (TRP), which is Tata Motors' motorsports driver training and selection program.

The top 10 drivers from TRP 1.0 last year got a chance to participate in the Season 3 of T1 Prima racing series. Similarly, this year, top 10 shortlisted drivers of the second edition of T1 Racer Program (TRP 2.0) will be participating in the Super Class category, while top 10 drivers from the first edition (TRP 1.0) will race in the Champion Class Category.

For the 2017 season, there are a total of three categories for the racing championship:

• Super Class - Comprising of 10 new Indian drivers from TRP 2.0

• Champion Class - Comprising of top 10 Indian drivers from TRP 1.0

• Pro Class - Comprising of 12 international drivers

The T1 Prima Truck Racing series is certified by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) and FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India). It is organized by Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) and is in-line with the safety and performance guidelines set up by the British Truck Racing Association (BTRA).
