Toyota bZ4x electric SUV production version unveiled

The new bZ4x is also the first model under Toyota's bZ Series, dedicated to its battery-electric vehicle line-up.

Toyota has unveiled the final production version of its first fully-electric SUV, the bZ4X. The new bZ4x is also the first model under Toyota's bZ Series, dedicated to its battery-electric vehicle line-up.

The Toyota bZ4x is based on the concept version of the SUV that was showcased earlier this year. The electric SUV is underpinned by the e-TNGA platform, which positions the battery in the floor. This layout helps lower the centre of gravity, increase cabin space and also improve chassis rigidity.

The exterior design of the Toyota bZ4x is similar to that of the concept. It features sharp lines all across, slim LED headlamps, LED taillights connected by an LED bar, and large wheel arches housing 20-inch alloy wheels.

On the inside, the bZ4x electric SUV comes with a bunch of features, equipment and tech. This includes a fully-digital instrument cluster, large central touchscreen infotainment system with connected tech and over-the-air updates, yoke-styled steering wheel (conventional steering wheel offered as optional), plenty of space for both front and rear passengers and a large 452-litre boot.

The new Toyota bZ4x electric SUV comes with a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired with an AC synchronous electric motor. The SUV is offered with either a 2WD option or a 4WD version with an additional 80 kW motor at the rear. The 2WD version churns out 201 BHP, while the top-spec 4WD variant produces 215 BHP of peak power output.

Both versions are said to offer a range of around 500 km on a single charge. The Toyota bZ4x is offered with a 150 kW fast-charging capacity, allowing for an 80 per cent charge in just 30 mins.
