Toyota customer information leaked through a data breach

The email addresses and other information of customers who subscribe to T-Connect has leaked.

A cyber attack on multiple Toyota Kirloskar Motor entities has exposed personal information of several customers.

In an official statement released by Toyota, the carmaker confirmed the incident, stating that it might have exposed the personal information of some of its customers on the internet. However, the extent of the intrusion is still unclear.

The statement also mentioned that the email addresses and customer management numbers of some customers who subscribed to T-Connect had leaked. Toyota hasn’t revealed the exact number of customers affected by this data breach. However, the company has said it would work with its service provider to further enhance the existing guidelines.

The Indian Computer Energy Response Team (CERT-In) has been alerted to the breach. 

Official statement:

"Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been notified by one of its service providers of an incident that might have exposed personal information of some of TKM’s customers on the internet. The extent of intrusion is being confirmed. The competent authority CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has been notified. Considering this incident, TKM will work with its service provider to further enhance the existing extensive guidelines being followed and is fully committed to avoid any kind of inconvenience to our esteemed customers. We sincerely apologise for any concern this may have caused to our customers."
