Toyota to provide 55 Camry Hybrid cars for India Africa Forum

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced that it will provide a fleet of 55 Camry Hybrid cars for transportation of the African Nation delegation during the 3rd India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS). The summit will be held from the October 26 to October 29, 2015 in New Delhi and will be attended by leaders and diplomats from the African Nations.

Earlier this year, Toyota had launched the Camry Hybrid facelift in India. The car is locally manufactured in India. Toyota claims that out of the combined sales of Camry range, more than 90% numbers are contributed by the Camry Hybrid.

Toyota has sold more than 8 million hybrid vehicles all over the world and India is the ninth country to manufacture Toyota hybrid globally.

The Toyota Camry is the first hybrid vehicle to qualify for the incentive provided by the Government under its Faster Adoption & Manufacturing of Electric cars (FAME). Camry Hybrid’s has a full hybrid powertrain, which combines the performance of a petrol engine and an electric motor. Unlike an electric vehicle, the Camry is a self-charging vehicle. When the vehicle decelerates or at the time of braking, the electric motor acts as a generator and converts the kinetic energy to electric energy in a process called regenerative braking. This energy is stored in the car’s HV battery pack for later use when needed to power the vehicle.

The Camry Hybrid uses a 2,494cc, 4-cylinder petrol motor that puts out 158 BHP @ 5,700 rpm and 213 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm. The electric motor of the car develops 141 BHP and 270 Nm of torque. The vehicle comes with an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (E-CVT).

Some of the features that are available on the Camry Hybrid include LED headlamps, 15-spoke alloy wheels, auto folding and reverse linked ORVMs with memory function, 3-zone automatic climate control, front seat ventilation system, power sunshade for rear windshield, manual sunshade for rear door windows and a head-up display.

Safety features include seven airbags, rear seats complying with Isofix, hill-start assist parking sensors and rear view camera, vehicle stability control and anti-lock braking system among others.
