Umling La is the new highest motorable road in the world

One of the other high mountain passes and a very famous one at that, is Khardung La.

Umling La in eastern Ladakh is now the world's highest motorable road.

The Border Road Organization (BRO) has completed the construction of the Umling pass that connects Demchok with the rest of Ladakh. The highest point on the pass is at an altitude of 19,300 feet, which makes it higher than a road in Bolivia which peaks at 18,953 feet.

The 52 km long blacktop road connects Leh to strategically important towns in the Chumar sector of eastern Ladakh. It also serves as an alternative route connecting Chisumle and Demchok, close to the India-China border.

One of the other high mountain passes and a very famous one at that, is Khardung La. It has an altitude of almost 17,600 feet and connects Leh to the Nubra valley.
