Voice of F1, Murray Walker passes away at the age of 97

British commentator Murray Walker has passed away. He was well known for his Formula 1 commentary.

Walker's first Grand Prix was the Silverstone GP of 1949 for BBC radio. In 1976, he became a full-time F1 commentator and retired in 2001. In his 52-year Formula 1 career, he was well known for his commentary on the 1976 Championship battle of Niki Lauda and James Hunt, Nigel Mansell's 1992 title and Damon Hill's 1996 Suzuka victory amongst others. 

Walker commanded a Sherman Tank in World War II and joined the BBC after the war. In 1976, he was handed commentary work for F1 after Hunt's victory.
