Volkswagen Polo 1.6 GT TDI gets a discount

Just two months after its launch in India, the country's most powerful B+ segment turbo diesel hatchback is already available at a chunky discount of over 35,000 rupees. That a recent launch such as the Volkswagen Polo GT 1.6 TDI is being discounted speaks volumes about how car sales in India are slipping.

Although Volkswagen India has added no less than three new variants of the Polo, in the form of the GT TSI, Cross Polo and the GT TDI, sales of the hatchback haven't really picked up. In fact, sales of the Polo, despite the numerous variant additions, have been slipping for the past six months or so. Alternatively, the Polo 1.6 GT TDI buyer can opt for a flat cash discount of 25,000 rupees and an exchange bonus of 10,000 rupees, totaling to 35,000 rupees. The Polo GT 1.6 TDI comes with all the features and creature comforts available on the Highline TDI model of the hatchback. 

The key feature of this car though is its 1.6 liter TDI turbo diesel engine, a unit that has been borrowed from the Vento. The 1.6 TDI motor outputs 105 PS-250 Nm and is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels. The car is aimed at driving enthusiasts seeking a fun drive that's fuel efficient too.
