Volvo EX90's cabin lighting could replicate natural daylight

It will be the first time the SunLike LEDs will be used in an automotive application.

Volvo could offer its all-electric SUV, the EX90 with cabin lighting that replicates natural daylight.

As per reports, a Korean company, Seoul Semiconductors, recently developed a range of LEDs called 'SunLike', which are non-flickering LEDs producing an illumination close to that of the spectrum of planetary daylight. The light is said to come with a new diode, a purple emitter and different phosphors replacing the usual yellow. This new tech is said to produce light whose colour, texture and reflection are close to that of natural light, which could make its way into the cabin of the Volvo EX90.

The electric SUV will have 72 SunLike LEDs placed all around the vehicle, including in the cabin ceiling, floors, door pockets and even the boot. This, according to Volvo's design lead, will allow the interior of the EX90 to stand out more clearly without any colour distortion. It will also help other natural materials used in the EX90 (wood deco, wool and Nordico-recycled synthetic fabric) to look more natural.

The SunLike LEDs are already said to be in use in some museums, but it will be the first time these lights will be used in an automotive application.

Reports also stated that the Polestar 3 would get the same light treatment on its interior.
