Volvo P6820C ABG paver launched in India

Volvo CE, the construction equipment arm of the Swedish automaker, has launched its new P6820C ABG paver in India. It is a new mid-size paver in Volvo's commercial equipment portfolio and is claimed to be more powerful than its predecessor, while extracting better fuel economy figures and lesser noise.

The P6820C ABG offers a wide range of paving widths, which can be changed by up to twice of the basic screed width - from 2.5 to 5 meters or from 3 to 6 meters. Additionally, by using extensions, the overall screed width can be extended to up to 9 meters. With a 9 meter wide screed, the P6820C can give a throughput of 700 tonnes per hour. It can deliver a maximum mat thickness of 300 mm. Volvo claims to have designed the mid-size paver to feed various materials, including wearing course, binder course, base course and frost protection layers. The vehicle is powered by Volvo’s D6E COM IIIA/EPA Tier 3 engine rated at 142 kW, equating to around 190 BHP.

The operator cabin offers a direct view into the hopper, the auger channel and the work area. This helps in operating the vehicle to achieve better paving quality. An Electronic Paver Management II system (EPM II) has been embedded into the swivelling, tilting and other extendable control panel features. This system provides a step by step guide to the operator and also monitors fuel consumption and manages service intervals of the vehicle. There is also a setting manager on offer that saves all operating settings, which can then be reused by the push of a button when paving on similar conditions. All these electronic control panels can be removed and stored in a lockable compartment to aid security.
