Volvo is said to have started local assembly of the S90 sedan in India. An image of the vehicle at the company's Bangalore assembly plant has surfaced online.

It is believed that pre-production vehicles of the S90 were built in late 2017. Following the necessary quality procedures, the car was cleared for production.

The S90 is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces 187 BHP @ 4,250 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The car competes in the mid-size luxury sedan segment that includes the BMW 5-Series, Audi A6, Jaguar XF and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

It may be recalled that earlier this year, we had reported that Volvo was planning to start assembling three of its models in India. The three cars included in the list were the S90 sedan, V90 Cross Country and the new XC60.

The XC60 went on sale in India in December 2017. Volvo is said to have assembled approximately 300 units of the SUV.
