The Mahindra Bolero Camper-based caravan is aimed at tour operators and could be offered as a self-drive rental.

Mahindra has partnered with Campervan Factory to launch affordable campervans in India.

Mahindra and IIT Madras' Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) plans to develop caravans based on the Bolero Camper double-cab. The International Centre for Clean Water (ICCW) will be taking care of water management and waste disposal, while Saint Gobain Research Centre will develop glazed windows.

The campervan will have a sleeping and dining space for four occupants, a mini-fridge, television, microwave and optional air-conditioning. It will also have running water with a shower and a bio-toilet which doesn't require a septic tank. Instead, the vehicle comes with a separate tank that is filled with bacteria which decomposes the waste into methane, carbon dioxide and water.

Mahindra has launched the updated Bolero Camper range. It gets new features and is available in a new variant called Camper Gold ZX that has increased payload capacity of 1,000 kg. Prices start for the new Bolero Camper start at Rs. 7.26 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The Bolero Camper Gold ZX is available in a double-cab body style. It gets a new front fascia, grille and reflector headlamps. The pick-up has has a dual-tone interior with a new centre console. It gets seats with faux-leather upholstery and headrests. The seats can slide and recline. Other features include power windows, air-conditioning, central locking, power steering and retractable seat belts.

The Bolero Camper is powered by a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that produces 62 BHP @ 3,200 rpm and 195 Nm of torque @ 1,400-2,200 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is available with either 2WD or 4WD.

The Bolero Camper also available in Gold VX 4WD Non-AC and Cash Van variants.
