New-gen KTM Duke 125 globally unveiled

KTM will launch the 2024 Duke 125 in the Indian market, although it could get a few changes to keep the costs in check.

Just days after the unveiling of the new 2024 KTM Duke 390, the Austrian bike maker has taken the wraps off its latest entry-level offering, the Duke 125. The small beginner-friendly streetfighter from KTM gets a major update over its predecessor, borrowing a lot of styling cues from its new-gen Duke 390 sibling.

In terms of design, the 2024 KTM Duke 125 looks almost identical to its larger displacement sibling, with the 125 decals and the colour options being the only source of differentiation at first glance. The new-gen Duke 125 borrows the same edgy tank cowls, LED headlights and even the 5-spoke alloy wheels from its bigger sibling. The bike gets a revised trellis frame and is said to be slimmer than before, giving it a more sportier look. It also features a new TFT instrument cluster offering a host of vehicle information for the rider.

The new-generation KTM Duke 125 carries forward the same 124cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It produces 14.7 BHP and 11 Nm and is paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The 2024 Duke 125 now comes with a redesigned swingarm, 43 mm WP inverted forks at the front with pre-load adjustability and a mono-shock at the rear. Braking is via a 320 mm front and 240 mm disc at the rear, supported by dual-channel ABS. Although, the bike does have the option to switch off the ABS at the rear whenever necessary.

KTM 125 Duke, 200 Duke & RC 200 to get modified exhausts

The modification is likely to result in a 20 mm increase in ground clearance.

According to a media report, KTM is working on a modified exhaust for its 125 Duke, 200 Duke and RC 200 bikes. This redesigned unit is said to improve ground clearance.

The KTM 125 Duke, 200 Duke and RC 200 come with an underbelly exhaust that is routed under the engine. To achieve better ground clearance, KTM engineers are looking to remove the silencer protector that sits just below the crankcase. This is likely to result in a 20 mm increase in ground clearance.

The report also states that KTM would also have to make some preload adjustments to the rear monoshock to avoid the bikes from bottoming out when riding with a pillion.

It is even expected to borrow a number of features from its larger sibling, the Duke 390.

KTM is working on updates for its entry-level streetfighter offering, the Duke 125. As seen from the spy images, the new KTM Duke 125 seems to feature a tweaked trellis frame, a new engine casing for its 125cc liquid-cooled unit, a repositioned catalytic converter, and it has a newly designed swingarm compared to the current model. The spy images also reveal changes to the rear sub-frame that looks similar to the latest-gen Duke 390, while the wheels and brakes look similar to the 2022 KTM Duke 200. The bike is equipped with USD forks from WP at the front and a mono-shock unit at the rear.

While the 2023 Duke 125 is expected to carry forward the same 125cc unit, it will receive better tuning, which could result in better performance and efficiency. The exact specifications of the updated engine are yet to be announced.
