Vicky Chandhok not to stand for re-election

President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India, Vicky Chandhok has announced that he will not seek re-election for another term. Chandhok has been at the helm of the association for seven out of the last nine years. His first term was a three-year stint from 2005 to 2007 and the second one lasted for four years from 2009 to 2013.

Vicky Chandhok played a big role in building relations with the FIA and FIM. It was during his term as president that India hosted its first Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Asia Road Racing Championships for bikes was another international event that made and appearance in India.

Home-grown events like the JK National Karting Championship flourished. Events like the JK Racing India Series, MRF 16000 and MRF Challenge 2013 were introduced to help prepare young drivers to face the challenges of international competition. Also introduced were the Volkswagen Polo R Cup and Toyota Etios Trophy, which helped saloon car racing in India, in creating a niche for itself.

While Vicky Chandhok will not contest for the post of president, he will continue to work as a member of the FMSCI managing council.
