Hi mods and forum members, I have a question regarding TPMS and tyre rotation.
I recently purchased a Seltos HTX IVT that came in with a factory TPMS. The readings are displayed on the MID. All good till here!
Is any form of re-calibration or re-assignment required after a tyre rotation? As in how will the MID (or whatever is driving the display of readings) know which tyre went where? I searched quite a bit but did not find a cohesive answer.
Here's what GTO had to say about the matter:
Very valid question!
- My 530d has the old-school, limited functionality ABS-linked TPMS. It never gives a low-pressure warning below 70 - 80 kmph and never gives real-time tyre pressure either. On this car, there is no problem with recognising which tyre is the culprit.
- On my Thar however, it's all messed up. We got the tyres upsized and the tyre installer put them back in whatever order. So, I never know what tyre pressure reading is for which tyre.
For now, I use a Michelin tyre gauge. But it would be interesting to know the real solution to this problem.
Here's what BHPian NomadSK had to say about the matter:
The process for resetting the TPMS must be there in the owner’s manual. Here’s what it says for Thar!
Here's what BHPian robincsamuel had to say about the matter:
I have gone through the owner's manual now and couldn't find anything regarding that, neither in the TPMS section nor in the tyre rotation section.
Then, I had a quick chat with the service advisor from Naara Kia, J P Nagar, and he said the sensor is programmed to handle that automatically. I believe that's correct because I got my tyres rotated at Madhus, and the TPMS is working perfectly. Really cool!

The car is sold! It has been 3 years and 46000 km since I bought this car but the fuss free ownership came to an abrupt end as I'm traveling abroad on a long term assignment. The car was bought today by a gentleman who stays close to my home and I'm confident that he is going to take care of the car well.
It was a wonderful experience owning this car. It never posed any problems and was super reliable. It was always a pleasant experience to drive this car and had a lots of great memories with it. I think this will be my last diesel car as I don't think there will be any model from any manufacturer in the coming years. The engine + AT gearbox of this car is a match made in heaven. I'll surely miss it.
The last shot of the car before it was handed over to it's new owner:
While the Seltos is gone, my Omni turned 20 this year. Got it completely repainted since the paint had faded a bit. Renewed the fitness certificate for 5 more years. The reliability of this car is at another level. Zero breakdowns in the last 20 years, never got stranded anywhere, almost zero maintenance and the list goes on.
The demand for this car is unbelievable. I get instant cash offers on this car from random strangers. The usage has drastically reduced in the last few years and is solely used for running local errands. It barely goes beyond 2-3 kms radius of my home. My parents will take care of it while I'm out of the country. I'm going to retain this car for many more years.
Everything is stock (including the sliding door rattles that came from factory) in the car except for the new paint:
Got a new set of wheels:
New set of seat covers and floor mats:
