Yamaha Ray ZR, Fascino 125 Hybrid recalled in India

Around 3 lakh units manufactured between January 1, 2022 and January 4, 2024, are affected by this issue.

Yamaha has announced a voluntary recall of its 125cc Hybrid scooters over an issue with the brake lever function.

According to the company, around 3 lakh units of the Ray ZR 125 Fi Hybrid and Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid manufactured between January 1, 2022 and January 4, 2024, are affected by this issue. The replacement part will be provided to customers free of charge.

To verify the eligibility for the recall, customers should visit the Service section and enter their vehicle’s chassis number on the Yamaha India website. Customers can also reach out to the company on the toll-free number: 1800-420-1600.

Yamaha Fascino 125 FI Hybrid launched at Rs. 70,000

The Fascino 125 FI Hybrid comes with a Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system.

Last month, Yamaha took the wraps off the Fascino 125 FI Hybrid. The scooter has now been launched in the Indian market. It is priced at Rs. 70,000 for the base drum brake variant and Rs. 76,530 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the disc brake version.

The Fascino 125 FI Hybrid comes with a Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system which functions as an electric motor to give a power assist when accelerating. The scooter also comes with a Side Stand Engine Cut off Switch as standard.

The Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 8.08 BHP @ 6,500 rpm and 10.3 Nm @ 5,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

The Disc brake version comes equipped with the Bluetooth enabled Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app, LED headlights with daytime running lights, an LED tail light and a digital instrument cluster.

2021 Yamaha Fascino 125 with hybrid tech unveiled

The Fascino comes with a 'smart motor generator' that provides a power boost when accelerating.

Yamaha has revealed the 2021 Fascino 125. The scooter comes with a hybrid system for the first time. It will be launched in the Indian market later this year.

The Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 8.08 BHP @ 6,500 rpm and 10.3 Nm @ 5,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

All of this is pretty standard. But the interesting bit is the addition of a 'smart motor generator' (SMG). It offers a power boost when accelerating and also gives the scooter automatic start / stop capability. The rider receives a notification on the instrument cluster when the hybrid system is activated.

The Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid comes equipped with an LED headlight with an LED daytime running lights and an LED tail light, digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. It supports the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X app, which offers features such as answer-back, locate my vehicle, riding history, parking record and hazard.

The scooter comes with an optional 190 mm front disc brake as well. Other features include 21-litre underseat storage, optional USB charging port and a multi-function key with seat opening system.

BS6 Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi launched at Rs. 66,430

Yamaha has launched the Fascino 125 Fi. The BS6 compliant scooter now comes with a 125cc engine and is available in four variants. Prices start at Rs. 66,430 (ex-showroom).

The Fascino 125 Fi will replace the Fascino 110 that is presently on sale. It gets a new tail light and a wider rear tyre. At the front, it has V-shaped chrome trim and a chrome bezel around the headlamp.

The new 125cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine produces 8.08 BHP @ 6,500 rpm and 9.7 Nm @ 5,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The scooter comes equipped with drum brakes as standard, while a 190 mm front disc brake is available as an option.

Yamaha India: one million scooters produced till date

Yamaha Motors India has reached the milestone of producing one million scooters in the country. The company rolled out its one-millionth scooter, which was a Fascino, from its manufacturing plant in Surajpur, Greater Noida. Yamaha manufactures scooters at both its plants - in Surajpur and Chennai.

It is worth noting that out of these one million scooters, around 80,000 have been exported to markets like Nepal, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Cost Rica, Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

Yamaha stepped into the gearless scooter market in 2012 with the Cygnus Ray, which was aimed at young female riders. The company then rolled out a new version of this scooter, christened as the Yamaha Cygnus Ray Z, and aimed it at young male buyers. The Japanese automaker subsequently launched a couple of more products, including the Cygnus Alpha and Fascino.

Yamaha has recorded a growth of 94% in its scooter sales during the first half of this year, as compared to the previous year.

Yamaha inaugurates new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu

Yamaha has inaugurated a new two-wheeler manufacturing facility at Vallam Vadagal in the Kanchipuram district of Tamil Nadu. The plant will roll out the 125cc Saluto motorcycle and scooters including the Fascino, Alpha, Ray and Ray Z.

The new facility, which is located on the outskirts of Chennai, will be the first in the Yamaha Motor group to have a vendor park in its vicinity. It is spread across an area of 177 acres, out of which, Yamaha is using 109 acres and 68 acres have been given to vendor partners. To begin with, Yamaha will employ 2,000 people at its plant. The vendor park has 9 vendors who plan to invest Rs. 1,000 crore and employ around 3,000 people by 2018.

Yamaha will invest Rs. 1,500 crore in phases till 2018 in the new plant. The facility will have an initial production capacity of 4,50,000 units which will be increased to 1.8 million units by 2018. The factory plans to employ 3,900 people by 2018.

The Chennai plant incorporates infrastructure and technologies for zero-water discharge and recycle / reuse of waste water and maximum use of sunlight. The building is compatible with solar power system installation.

Yamaha had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Tamil Nadu in May 2012 to construct and operate the two-wheeler factory in the state.

Yamaha has two other operating factories in India located at Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Faridabad (Haryana). With all three plants in operation, the company plans to have a combined two-wheeler production capacity of 2.5 million units by 2018.

Yamaha launches Fascino scooter at Rs. 52,500

Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha, has launched the Fascino scooter in India at a price of Rs. 52,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Fascino measures 1,815 mm in length, 675 mm in width and 1,120 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1,270 mm, ground clearance of 128 mm and a kerb weight of 103 kg. The scooter has a telescopic fork front suspension at the front, a unit swing suspension at the rear, drum brakes and tubeless tyres.

Powering the Fascino is a 113cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 4-stroke engine which is mated to a continuous variable transmission (CVT). It features Yamaha's Blue Core technology and produces 7 BHP @ 7,500 rpm and 8.1 Nm of torque @ 5,000 rpm and Yamaha claims that the scooter can return a fuel efficiency of 66 kpl.

Other features include and an electric and a kick starter, analogue instrumentation, parts finished in chrome, 21 litres of underseat storage, a 5.2-litre fuel tank and a long contoured seat. The scooter is available in 5 colours - cyan, red, white, cobalt and black.
