Red face Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue

So what do you do when the summer heat is getting to you?

a) Find a car with AC and drive to an air conditioned resort for the weekend
b) Head out to the hills
c) Go camping and trail driving in hot humid climate

Since you are reading this section of Team-BHP, am sure the answer would be C. Given a chance we just try to find ways to get our 4x4's out and head out to places where normal population would never head out.

Well thats what few of us friend's decided to do, original plan was to drive out into a reserve forest, hence there was a restriction to the number of vehicles. The invite's had to be kept to a small group of close friends due to this. Unfortunately the day before the trip, the permissions went for a toss and it was decided we would drive to an alternate location.

The camp will be at Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, by the river Kaveri and location called Dabgali. Well google maps wont be able to help you here but heading out on Kanakpura road for about 80-90 kms and you are there. I will let other's who have better sense of geography to give more details of this place. But no matter what, without our trusted organizer/initiator Mukund you wont find the place lol.

So now i will resort to an experiment with Photolog to help me narrate the story.

Day 1

Sreeraj drove in his MM picked me up and we drove to Khan's residence, number restriction applied to vehicles and Sree parked his vehicle there and we both hopped into Spidey. I choose to sit behind and do some push ups for cushioning.

We reached the meet point on Kanakpura road by 1.30 pm expecting the whole gang yelling at us, since we were late by 30 mts. But true to BLR 4x4 boys sense of timing, none of em were there! We waited in the restaurant and one by one they trickled in and finally paid bills and headed out to stock up on ciggie's and water by 4.30 pm lol

I will call her the blue eyed girl.
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-3-blue-eyed-boy.jpg

We drive out and after some quick shopping and fire wood loading at a friends farm, we drive towards our destination. While the traffic eased and climb started, the blue eyed gal decided to let us know who was the boss. Well she was getting heated up and was informed to us by the care taker that her coolant cap is kaput!!
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-4-first-sos-call.jpg

Fill her up and we are ready to go!
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-5-should-i-share.jpg

Met up with the rest of the gang, thank god this one had a flag pole otherwise we would have wooshed past.
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-6-tv-star.jpg

After some more driving we had a small tea break.
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-7-chai-stop.jpg

Some more driving, with day light failing we reach the start point of the trail
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-8-start.jpg
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-9-pumping.jpg
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-10-odd-one-out.jpg

Drive for a while and another break. last one is a pathetic attempt at long exposure photography with hands lol

Finally we reach the destination by around 8 i guess, original camp spot is filled with cow dung, so one party explore the area to find a nice secluded spot. Only issue there is a hurdle on the way. Its a dried up stream into the river, but its all soft sand Do you think we need any more excuse to cross it!

Most of us made the mistake of trying it out in 2 wheel drive, but fortunately realized it sooner or later to slip in those free wheels or 4x4 levers in the right direction.

I managed to do some borrowed tripod shot with tripod on sand
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-25-moonlit-river.jpg
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-26-river-flows.jpg

And then decided its too much of a bother and join the gang.
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-27-tranced-out.jpg

We spent a long night yapping up barbeque's, roti's, jacket potato and what not. Took a small walk to the river bed where some people needed to be scared with the kaveri crocodile story to keep em off the river.

Day 2

Morning i wake up to see these guys crawling around.
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-28-bugged.jpg

Ahh some of em were sweet enough to wake up early and help with kitchen chore and morning tea.
Gone camping by the river Dabgali. Photologue-29-cooking-helpers.jpg

While some managed to drop DSLR's into the river and then dis-assemble em on top of hot bonnets with an excuse to dry.

To be continued in next post...........

So i walk around, have tea followed by some yummy bread omelette's. Found some still snoring off and some all over the jeeps, front back and on top!

Went in to have a swim and came back expecting the gang roaring to start the trail drive on the alternate return route. Well that was not the case and they had decided to jump into the river, go river rafting and me a fool all dressed up. So while they swam some photo shoot kept me occupied.

Jaggu,
That's a ball of a time you all had there. Loved the sand tripod photograph, the first one.
I am sure you all did some cooking on camp, if so why not post pics of the same...it is a very important component of the camping package. When we go camping, 70% reason is to cook and eat.
Regards,
