I'd prefer the JBL GT4-10 over the Pio. But if you intend to use the sub on a parcel tray, you had better go for a free-air model like the Pio 306F. The JBL needs a box and is not likely to sound good on a parcel tray. The 10" JBL sub should not take up thaaaat much space. The space used up will be worth the quality of sound from a sub in a box (rather than a free-air sub).

If you're getting a sub, you really don't need ovals. 6.5" coaxials should do. In a Swift I'd put the rear coaxials (6 to 6.5") in the stock locations in the door, rather than an MDF tray.

Tomorrow i am going to take delivery of my swift ldi (this is not the problem part). I talked to the sales person on phone today and he said that Maruti will void the warranty if any wire in the car is spliced or cut. He said maruti uses some special coupler which will not involve any cutting of wire. He also said that this coupler is not available anywhere in market (can this be true).
The coupler (or "harness" as it should be called) is available with all good installers. The salesperson at Maruti is trying to corner you into buying the audio from them. Don't fall for it.

If you get the install done at a good installer, use stock locations and wiring harness, no car manufacturer can refuse you warranty. It is merely a stunt the car dealer engages in to sell accessories. If they have any issues, ask them to write such on their letterhead and give to you. If need be, mention the magic words "Consumer Court". I assure you, that will be the end of their bickering.

thanks gunbir. i took the delivery of the car today. as u said it was merely a stunt and issue didn't went that far that i have to use magic words.

Now question is from where to buy the HU and speakers and from where to get the install done. I know a team bhp member by user name driven does a decent job in mayapuri. As i stay in chanakyapuri, mayapuri would be far. Have heard of installers in Lajpat Nagar also. can anyone suggest any one there. My main interest are in JBL GTO 6-7 for front and JBL GTO 636 for rear or Hertz. Using hertz will outstrech the budget too far. there are many product line ups in hertz Energy , Hi energy ,diEce and Mille. Which one of the three will be most nearer to JBL's price and what will be the quality difference in the two.

Thanks

The Hertz Dieci Series are priced similar to the JBL GTO series. As far as differences between the two, you should listen to both and decide for yourself what you like. I don't think availability of either would be a problem for you.

He gave me the option of sony , blaupunkt and kenwwod systems which the company has. If i still have to go with those systems after researching so much about jbl and hertz , i will not be happy. ....
1. Yes the warranty will be void if the wires are cut but you can get the connector outside Maruti as well. Just make sure your installer uses that connector.

2. you can mate a sony, blaupunkt, or kenwood HU to hetz or JBL speakers. the wires the maruti person is talking about are for the HU only.

3. Vittesse in Mumbai was very happy to install an Alpine HU and 4 JBL speakers for my father in law (in his Swift Zxi). We supplied the hardware and they took about 4 hours to return the car. The job really takes not more than 60 minutes (no amps or any thing fancy). Maybe you dealer is jsut acting difficult. threaten to take your business to another dealer if ho does NOT cooperate. Talk to the manger not the sales person and use words like

"You know, I'd really like to buy this car through you after all you guys really do provide very good after sales service but I find your stance on this to be unreasonable. All HUs are the same electrically so what does it matter if I give you the HU or buy one from you. Do you really want to loose the commisions on the sales and service of the car just for the meagre commission you earn on the sales of the HU?"

His stance will be that it is not his fault it is store polcy. Then politely tell them it is your policy to have what you want not what the store is shoving down your throat. And that yo will be willing to talk to anyone who can help including his boss or bosses boss or even the Head or Marketing or CEO of Maurti if need be.

I have got sticker companies like Skoda and Honda to coperate. Dont get mad. Dont get excited. Just get what you want FIRMLY and POLITELY.

Need Help

Confused after reading all these threads. I would like to decide the ICE for my Swift.
  • I want a basic sweet sounding (not interested in too much of bass - I would like a lot of clarity and crispness.) system for listening to mostly melodious Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil songs and some instrumental ones like Mozart, KennyG, Beethoven etc. So you know what I am inclined towards.
  • Budget 10~15k (I cannot afford more now - nor do I wish to add anything to my system later on)
  • I would like to use the 6" placement positions provided on the 4 doors only.
My choice:
  • Sony HU (with USB and Aux In - their site wasn't working correctly, so could not get the model number) - Rs. 8990
  • JBL GTO637/CS2165 - 4 Nos
My Questions:
  • How much does the JBLs cost? I saw that GTO637 was priced at 3950 on rediff. Is this for one speaker? If so, I really cannot afford them. How much does CS2165 cost? I do not mind buying a cheaper HU and spending more on the speakers.
  • Is there any other speaker that I should consider?
  • Where can I get these things installed properly in Pune (I do not want the car wiring to be spliced). So I should be able to get the connectors also from this guy.

Sony HU....no.....get a pioneer one.7950IB it is for 10k in grey....good HU....and speakers go for 607 components in the front and ovals in the back....as the speaker in the rear door are of no use....they will hard be able to hear them....as they are quite blocked either by the front seat or the rear passenger but the oval (6x9) will also add some bass also....so it is better to get the ovals.....

Hi Biju,

3950/- is for the pair of GTO637. And the CS2165 is about Rs.1000/- cheaper.

Sam that sounds a lot sweeter!

I really did not want the little boot I have to be made even smaller with the ovals. But if the JBL GTO937 is going to make a big difference, then I would definitely go for them. I do not have the parcel tray - so would need to add that to the list or get a wooden parcel tray custom made.

Any idea about where I can get all these fitted out in Pune. I saw that Bharat Car Accessories is the distributor for FX Audio. Do they do the installations as well? Anyone in particular you can recommend?

I can recommend Music Corner at Camp. I believe moralfibre has gone to him for some purchases. Though MF is doing his own install.

Or you can call bharat if you like, his number is at the back of any autocar. Tell him you know me.

Cheapest monoamp ( i too have decided on this one) is JBL CS300.1 : 10K
Good HU, Pio 6850/6950: 9K
JBL GTO937: 4.5K

Just stretch your budget, you should be doing great with above set-up
