Thanks a lot!

Should I take them to H.A.S.S. for installation, as Shubz mentioned?
Not All HASS guys may be keen to do the installation. May be you may have to have some good relations with them so they can take a risk of fiddling with the electricals.

Another equipment I have to retaliate to rash drivers is a button activated exhaust flame thrower which will shoot a two feet long flame from the exhaust.
Sure need these equipments in chennai roads, It's becoming bad to worse everyday.

re: Power Horns!

Guys a note of caution before installing those Wolf horns. Had around 4 separate incidents in my college days where the guy who is walking/riding/driving before me runs into me or brake suddenly cos of the sound created by this horn.

I was fined twice in 1999 for having this horn in my bike.

re: Power Horns!

The Stebel Nautilus on my car has konked and I'm not able to find a replacement in Bangalore. I've tried several shops around the JC Road area. Can the horn be repaired? Where else can I try to get a replacement?
Are there any alternatives to this one? I'm looking for a single piece, not the two piece like the the Bosch symphony.

re: Power Horns!

Hi all,

Guys, can anyone suggest some powerful horns (not skoda type) in the least possible price range. The stock horns in my car conked off & I am looking at replacing them. Hence would like something that can withstand some harsh use.

Thanks.

Blackfire_9, what car do you own?

For lesser price, try Roots brand. Roots are very reliable horns. You can try Vibromini/Vibrosonic/Spider Echo which comes around 600 - 700 bucks.

You can also try Bosch Normaltone horns priced at 650 bucks if the horn can be fixed safely from water spray.

Or try Hella Compact horns which is OEM for Honda City. Price is 350 bucks.

Regards,
Jose.

Vibrosonic and Melody Maker

I got replaced the factory horns with Bosch FC4 when i bought the car. But i didn't install it on a different circuit but just replaced the stock horns with FC4. These are great little horns with a piercing note, but i thought it was time to have another pair added as i got bored with em after an year. So in came Roots Vibrosonic and a Melody Maker..

The install was done at a local garage and the quality of work is just awesome. They created sturdy new clamps and the wiring was done very neatly using ring terminals, clips, wire duct et al I'm very fussy about proper wiring and this is done to my satisfaction.

The hors are installed at the two ends and it sits very neatly behind the fog lamps. I was worried whether they would fit in there when bumper was mounted, but they sit just fine. Eventhough there aint no grill on the bumper in front of the lamp the sound can be heard outside with good aural strength. An advantage in mounting it this way is that the horn is protected from direct spalshes of water as it sits between the bumper and fender aprons Since now i know that i can install larger horns in there, i'll replace the Vibrosonics with a larger pair when i get bored with this set after an year or so.

The Bosch FC4 was replaced too! Bosch Symphony (Windtone type) now sits in the place of FC4 as i didn't want to have two similar toned horns in my car.

The melody maker is wired such that it alternates between Vibrosonic and Symphony and the result is a pretty irritating note, hehe. Good for stubborn people who doesn't move over when honked decently. Choices i have now are - Symphony in sync, Vibrosonic in Sync and Symphony and Vibrosonic in different mutations.

Here are the pictures.

Those are the Roots Windtone. Will cost you around 650-750 bucks including installation. You can find them in any car accessory shop. I am just about to install them in my car.

Hey jose,

thanks for your help mate. I got the horns changed in my Alto, with Hella B36 (I believe they are listed on the website as silver horns). I like the sound & it's loud enough for my taste. The MRP is around 745, though I got them a little cheap through a known.

Drive safe.

re: Power Horns!

My cousin had got me a Stebel horn from Singapore for my i10. It has been lying with me for nearly a year now because i am not able to find a good person to fit it. I live in Chennai. Can anyone suggest me a contact person for doing it? The car is still under warranty so I wouldn't want someone to cut the wires to fit the horn.
