Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

This place may be tough for those with kids. It may end up only being a bachelors / those without kids meet.

Lets try something that would be convenient for all probably.

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

I am game for any of those options even mallali. My suggestion is this time we will do a trip where not many have explored and plan well 2 weeks in advance. Yes, Mukurthy is the best of all but only if some one who can get permits from forest departments. For those who are not able to trek till the peak can do a small 1km trek and be back to enjoy the crystal clear waters of ooty.

we went to Kemmangundi in the December of 2009. the walk to the z-point is pretty precarious. people who have vertigo (or faint of heart) certainly shouldn't try it

yeah, but the ladies found it kinda daunting. there is a spot before you hit the open area (in the pictures) where there is a small water fall - it very slippery in that section.

btw, why is that you never come for a meet? next time bring your CBZ

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

Seems interesting. Am game for the trek / drive whatever.

More than a trek, it looks like a pretty long uphill walk. Ironhawk, do we need a guide or something like that for the place and anything that we should know

As Libran put it, enough talking. Lets do Kemmanagundi this weekend

nope, you don't need a guide, but plan ahead the places you visit (z-point, waterfall, temple on hill; well these were the ones we visited). btw, make sure that you visit the z-point in the morning or the afternoon. if it gets dark, that trail is dangerous. there are two trails leading up to z-point - take the longer one (the one in the picture); the shorter one is for daredevils!

there is a waterfall nearby, but you'll have to rent out a jeep (which are there waiting for you; do not take your cars unless you have a 4x4) and they'll deposit you at a point from where you can walk a bit (around 2kms) to the waterfall. again, be careful here - the rocks are slippery (i fell on my backside while taking pictures). also, the jeep (open) ride is through dusty/muddy area so you might want to keep your optical instruments inside else they'll turn brown (i had ball of a time cleaning my cameras after the trip). also, carry some Moov or something with you because you guys gonna end up with backache after the jeep ride

also, there is a temple on a hill (not nearby; we returned to Chikkamangalur for the night and then went back the next day), don't remember its name thought. you'll be reminded of Stairway to Heaven!

Quick Meets at Bangalore-_mg_3625.jpg

when we went on Dec 2009, the roads were being tarred so we had to walk all the way up (and that's a pretty long walk). you guys might be lucky! also note that the road is narrow.

user discretion advised if taking your vehicles up!

more importantly, don't tire yourself out - you have to drive back home!

Re: Quick Meets at Bangalore

Iron Hawk, that place is Mulliyangiri - about 30 mins from Chikmangalur. The road is fully tarred now and nice to drive on.
I can join this meet any weekend other this one. This weekend I am planning to take my girlfriend home to meet my parents

The waterfall is Hebbe falls. We have to hike through a private estate and forest area to reach this waterfall.
When we had been there(8 years ago), we decided to see this place at the last moment and it was a very good decision I must say.
It was (and is) such a wonderful waterfall.

After seeing IronH4wk's post, I feel that this is a jinxed waterfall.
I had a fall as well and had a cut thumb finger on my foot (is it called a thumb??).
Quick Meets at Bangalore-dsc_0411.jpg

Hiking those 2kms back to the jeep with a cut finger and a thread to arrest bleeding was one thing which I can never forget.
This mark still gives me nice memories of that trip

Those jeeps demonstrated its true abilities to me during that ride. It was as if an experienced rock climber was climbing.

Let me see if I can join you guys and refresh those memories.
