Re: Italian Softroader to American Mile cruncher - The Figo TDCi. EDIT: 18,000 km upd

14K for a set of 4 for Taiwan/Chinese brand alloys looks expensive. I think you can get Plati 14" alloys at 15k for a set of 5 if you bargain a bit - look around a little more. If you are in BLR, PM me and I can give couple of contacts where you can get better deal.

Check out Neo alloys, they are Indian make and come with warranty. Also, you can use the OE wheel nuts with Neo alloys - so you will also de-risk the hassle of having to buy chrome nuts to fit other alloys, and they rusting badly, jamming/breaking, etc. Search "lugnuts", "rust", etc. on the forum to read more on issues with chrome nuts.

XM1+ price of 3800 looks very good. However, you should be able to get more for your GT3s if you bargain more.

3M front windshield film - Rs 6300

Rubber mats (all 4) - Rs 650
Yes as SMK says GT3 should be more.
3M windshield film seems to be costly. check the rates in some more places
Rubber mats - OK.

XM1+ in that size costs atleast Rs.500 more than that. Check whether it's new stock with Indian warranty.

Neo alloys at that price band have very poor finish compared to the cheaper taiwanese imports.

Check out the alloy wheels from apollo tyres. Pattern SH81 will suit Figo.

Apollo - India - Products - Alloy Wheels

These are the dealers in TN

Apollo - India - Network Partners - Tamil Nadu

Oops.. you are right -- Neo alloys wouldn't come at that price. Those will be 17+K for a set of 5 in 14" size, and price is higher for chrome finish and some other designs.

20K in 12M

The 20,000 figure has been crossed yesterday and it is exactly 2 more weeks to go for the 1 year milestone.

An early birthday celebration left me poor by around Rs.10,500/- after a full three course meal of
  • Fog Lamps Kit (around Rs.4.5K)
  • Philips White Streak Bulb Kit (around Rs.2.5K)
  • 20K Service (around Rs.3.5K)

The Fog Lamps Kit included
  • Wiring Harness
  • New Headlight Switch
  • Fog Lamps Set

The Philips White Streak Bulb Kit comes the following fitments with a Made in Germany Badge.
  • Headlight Bulbs
  • Fog Lamp Bulbs
  • Parking Bulbs

The 20K service included
  • New Engine Oil
  • New Air Filter
  • New Oil Filter
  • New A/C Filter
  • Wheel Alignment/Rotation
  • Brake Fluid Top Up
  • Clutch Fluid Top Up
  • Full Wash

Though Ford Manual Recommends Change of Brake and Clutch Fluid The Service Engineer was very sure that the original fluids are synthetic and does not need to be changed during the life of the vehicle.

Specifics of Service :-
  • The A/c cooling was less and there was a sound as if something is blocking the air flow. Change of A/C Filter solved this.
  • The A/c Fan had a small noise when turned on / off. Something like a non-greased bearing. They sprayed something to grease the fan area. Solved for now. Not sure if its a permanent solution
  • The problem with the headlight dim/bright switch was not solved due to non availability of parts.
  • The Brake noise was not solved since Ford is still to come out with a solution.

Impressions
  • The Fog lamps have some good amount of gap between he black area and the glass of the fogs. Another issue of buying from the first batch. The newer cars would get fogs that fill the area completely.
  • The White bulbs are worth buying and the Fog lamps even better. The Figo needs this much at bare minimum if you are frequently seen on highways at night.
  • The switch that came with the fog lamp set feels much more inferior to see/feel than the ones that came with the car. Probably ongoing cost cutting exercises at play.
  • The car is now far more silent and smoother than it went in for service. Gives me a feeling that Ford has gone a little over the edge to keep ownership costs at minimum. I feel the TDCi needs a service every 7500km. !0K/1Y is very convenient but maybe (just maybe) 7,500 would be better for the car.

Happy to be with Figo TDCi, Ford, and Karali Ford Trivandrum. Hoping it stays the same over the period of ownership.

Pics are on the way!

Gemi, congrats on completing yet another milestone, hope you have many more miles of trouble free FIGO'ing.

I agree with you on the service intervals being too long, hence I plan to take my FIGO (Diesel) for an oil and oil filter change at 15k.

I spoke to the service advisor at Harpreet Ford Delhi and he doesnt seem to have any issues with it, they are more than happy cos they will be charging me the usual service amount.

The brake noise is inherent for all ford vehicles I have driven. The braking is sudden, rough and the driver cannot effectively modulate them. They don't have the progressive feel but they are effective.

gemithomas, aren't the white bulbs inferior to the generic yellow halogens unless its an HID, neon etc. How is the throw on a dark, deserted highway?

That is worrying. How is the switch on the new Titanium? Have you seen it? And have you noticed this with any other parts on the new Figo?

How does the engine sound now? Does it feel smooth and free revving? Ideally, the Diesel engine should be at its best behavior after 20K.

And 3.5K for the 1st year service is just awesome. Kudos to Ford.

Many more happy returns of the figo

What is the exact cost of labour for the 20k service.

Wont they just charge you for the oil change?

Out Fusion has got one of the best brakes i have ever experienced. They are so effective and smooth. Thats one thing that makes the Figo brakes MORE IRRITATING at time.

gemithomas, aren't the white bulbs inferior to the generic yellow halogens unless its an HID, neon etc. How is the throw on a dark, deserted highway?

The ones that came with the car were close to useless to make the oncoming traffic dim their light. Th white ones are more effective in that. For me the most difficult thing is the on coming traffic pointing the lights directly to my eyes. So the white lights are more useful for me. The throw and spread are far better than the original bulbs. The fog lamps have improved the spread considerably. With the fog lamps and the philips bulbs the Figo can do night drives on the highways more confidently.

That is worrying. How is the switch on the new Titanium? Have you seen it? And have you noticed this with any other parts on the new Figo?

Nope! Have not had chance. Dont worry there would be improvements in many areas too and you wont have to go through those small irritants the first batch buyers had to go through.

After service Its much more smoother. The a/c is back to its chilling nature as when the car was new.

Comparing the New engine to the 20K done one. It surely has got more power down the rev range. I can now move forward from bumps in second gear. Thats something that was never possible when the car was new. The engine has been free revving for some time now. Maybe because i used to rev her right after 1500km. But it still cries out after the 3.5K mark. The TDCi is never at ease at higher rpms.

Noise levels are more or less the same.

And 3.5K for the 1st year service is just awesome. Kudos to Ford.

Re: Italian Softroader to American Mile cruncher - The Figo TDCi. EDIT: 18,000 km upd

@Gemi - Yes they will charge me for the oil change. Thats the reason they are more than happy to do it. Moreover Ford has not come out with a Synthetic Oil yet for the FIGO neither have they recommended any, so I guess for the time being we will have to change the service interval to 5k.

I dont like the idea of running a diesel on mineral oil for 10k.

QQ - Did you face issues with the rear windows rolling down? If yes, was it fixed in any of the services?

When I went in for second service at 10k, there was a job requested by Ford to add another wire set to re-route something in the dashboard. But there was never a job requested to change the rear window rollers to the new one that face the other side around (checked this in the newer FIGO's).

The engine oil that goes into the Figo is semi synthetic is what i was told.

I corrected the position of the rear window winders. The problem is almost sorted out now. But still with more people at the rear their legs still touch the winder and it rolls down a little sometimes. But anyways not as bad as earlier.

The wiring job done was the low brake fluid warning wiring harness. Its being done only on ABS enabled cars is what i heard. Ford somehow missed it out on first batches of cars.

20,000KM under a year is a lot of running! As always Gemi crisp and unbiased report from you :

My car is touching 9,800. Second service coming up.

I too got the philips white bulbs but I paid only 850 for a set of 4.
2 head light bulbs rated at 55/60 and 2 pilot bulbs.
I think the ones you got are 90/100 ?

They did the low brake fluid warning wiring harness on my figo Exi. I have paper work for it.

Edit-You are right. Just Checked it was the coolant system. I don't think it was for the brake fluid.

What exactly did they do with the cooling system? I dont think they did it on mine. Could you please confirm what it is? Would be very helpful.

850 for the bulbs!!!! I guess they have ripped me off then!!! The Bulbs are 4300K rated Philips bulbs with a "made in germany" badge. The headlight ones are 60/55 bulbs. I would want to believe that its that badge that makes it this costly

Here are the pics. Note the blue coloured park lights.

Here is a close up of the Fogs. Not something you would actually like to see after paying 4.5K!!!! Notice the Gap.

EDIT: I checked online for the price of philips H4 4300K bulbs. They come to around 28 USD (around Rs.1300-Rs.1400). Not sure what is happening!!
